Monterosso Almo, a small village in the heart of the Iblei Mountains

Monterosso Almo, the picturesque village of sublime magnificence nestled in the majestic heart of the Iblei Mountains, rises in the selected circuit of the ‘Most Beautiful Villages of Italy’.

This exclusive designation is not mere chance, but the celebration of a place where the air itself breathes nobility, a harmonious life with celestial measures, and a village steeped in human connections and traditions that are wrapped in ancient magnificence.

In the square, indigenous to enchanting names such as ‘U Chianu’ (Flatland), rises with sublime elegance S. Giovanni Battista Church, whose pyramidal facade, standing 22 metres high, opens to a scenographic interior, illuminated by a breathtaking vault, that embraces the nave in a symphony of ethereal ivory.

Towering over the square like a noble guardian is Palazzo Cocuzza, now housing the Museo Civico, embodying the ancient magnificence of the homonymous family and its surrounding estates.

Hidden alleys, secret courtyards, carved stairways and ancient arches begin a journey into the heart of the village

Hidden alleys, secret courtyards, carved stairways and ancient arches begin a journey into the heart of the village, in the preeminent neighbourhood known as the ‘Matrice’. Here, Madonna Addolorata’s Church, reborn after the 1693 earthquake, gracefully dominates the picturesque S. Antonio’s square, enriched by two stone semicircles that seem to lovingly guard the facade.

On the opposite side of the square, a scenographic flight of steps leads to the impetuous Chiesa Madre church, revived after the catastrophe of 1693. Its neo-Gothic facade, with mullioned windows and portal, captivates the eye like a visual poem.

This noble place is also a haven for a culinary and sensory experience, where the genuine flavours of ancient traditions and the uniqueness of a variety of almonds, thriving on the slopes of the Monti Iblei, complete the gastronomic epic of Monterosso Almo, a delight for refined palates and discerning epicureans.
